The Violet Protest

Katie and I went to the Phoenix Art Museum today and were especially moved by The Violet Protest exhibit by the artist Ann Morton. The installation features 8,000 unique 8” x 8” textile squares with equal parts red and blue, submitted by people from all 50 states plus territories.

The Violet Protest is intended to be a “colossal visual gesture of friendly protest to every member of the 117th US Congress.”

Among the squares that caught my eye, one is made from New York Times and Wall Street Journal plastic delivery bags. And another combines Scandinavian and Native American folk art styles.

Phoenix friends, you have until September 5 to see this wonderful exhibit in the lower level of the museum. More here.
