Each year, 1MISSION hosts thousands of build trip participants at our basecamp in Mexico. These volunteers get to see our work up close and personal. More than that, they get their hands dirty, building houses that represent so much more than just four walls and a roof.

Because the truth is, housing is just one piece of a much larger puzzle. Housing is part of a bigger strategy called community development.

So, what do we actually mean by “community development”? Where does this approach to poverty alleviation come from? What are the underlying principles shaping the transformative work you and I believe in?

Together with Nate Hughes, our VP of Partnerships, today I’m excited to announce the publication of our FREE new e-book, The True Story That Changes Everything: A Community Development Bible Study in Six Acts.

Drawing upon some of the best theological minds and community development practitioners out there, we wrote this book specifically for trip participants and leaders like you. That’s why many of the discussion questions and applications are focused on trips. But our hope is that it will be helpful for a much broader audience as well.
