Oscar Charleston

With pitchers and catchers reporting to spring training within the fortnight, it's about time for a baseball book. Next up for me in that category is Oscar Charleston: The Life and Legend of Baseball’s Greatest Forgotten Player. Written by my friend Jeremy Beer, this biography has been generating some impressive buzz, recently winning the SABR Seymour Medal and the CASEY Award for Best Baseball Book of the Year.

I don't know this for a fact, but I imagine Oscar Charleston never employed a trash can or a buzzer to decipher a changeup. And for this Mariners fan, that does not go unappreciated.
