A God We Cannot Capture

“The intimacy of God to creation persists as a cloud out in front of the people and as Jesus, whom the disciples both knew and did not fully understand. Likewise, we are the people of God not by grasping and concretizing the mystery of God as a blueprint for our action, reducing God to that which is possessed either by the individual as the intuition of conscience or by the crowd as an objectified history. Rather, we know God by being led in prayer and trust into a future we cannot name by a God whom we know but cannot capture.”
